Dato' Sri Shahrizat opens MJ at The Curve, Mutiara Damansara Lots of fashion gurus and loyal Metrojaya customers gathered at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara as senior management and staff of Metrojaya Department Stores welcomed special guest of honour Minister for Women, Family and Community Development YB Dato' Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to officiate over the launch of the inaugural MJ Fashion Concept Store. Welcoming YB Dato' Sri Shahrizat to the launch was Metrojaya Chairman Dato' Ahmad Khairummuzammil bin Yusoff and Metrojaya CEO Robert Heng Fook Hee. MJ by Metrojaya is the group’s first venture into the Fashion Concept Store arena. Previously, Metrojaya stores were neatly divided into traditional department store styles and their fashion specialty stores of Somerset Bay, East India Company and Cape Cod. Now with MJ the group is seeking to offer younger styles and be more flexible in the floor spaces and shopping malls that MJ stores can occupy. Spread over 60,000 sq ft of The Curve at Mutiara Damansara, about 400 invited guests and a host of shoppers eager to see the new store gathered to witness the launch. Metrojaya CEO Robert Heng
sees MJ by Metrojaya as looking to fill a niche between boutique stores
and department stores, offering a wide range whilst remaining true to its
service roots. “MJ is a one stop fashion concept and lifestyle store
that offers the latest in young fashion, accessories and international
cosmetics and fragrances, along with the personal customer service for
which Metrojaya remains legendary,” he said. When asked how the name
MJ came about, Heng said that the people in the marketing department saw
what seemed to be an alphabetic connection when other fashion houses
launched extensions of the central brand. For example, Calvin Klein has
CK, Donna Karan has DKNY, and so on. “So, seeing a format that clearly
worked, we hit on MJ by Metrojaya,” he said. |
