In Malaysia, "gotong royong" is the concept of doing things together and helping each other in the spirit of "muhibbah" or goodwill. Others call it Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or Corporate Citizenship. To us at Metrojaya it means giving back something to the Malaysian community and environment within which we operate as a business. Whilst our primary responsibility remains to create and deliver value to our customers, our staff and our shareholders, the privilege of corporate citizenship impels us to fulfil wider responsibilities and obligations toward those within our community who are not blessed with such advantages as we enjoy. We seek opportunities to give when and where we can, and we do this simply because we can and because we see it as right and good to so do.
Often the gift is monetary, but sometimes the better gift is giving time and attention and showing that we seek to care. Only we as individuals can lessen the loneliness and hurt and self pity that someone else might be feeling. And time and again we have found that the awareness we raise by leveraging our relationships with our media partners generates so much more response and ultimate help that we as a firm could achieve alone. It's a wonderful synergy.
The gotong royong value is one we hold very close to our heart and we choose to operate our business according to what we see as its core sense - to live together, we give together.
